A great escape from the hustle and bustle of  real life, cinema has been a part of the entertainment industry for a long time. Known to have a massive impact on people all over the world, it is a wholesome treat for the audience.

As a child I’ve always wondered, what is this special element that makes this visual treat so special that even after the experience comes to an end; there are always moments from the movie that stay with us? So much so that, these scenes eventually start having an effect on the mind.

Growing up I understood that it's the music that strikes a chord with the human brain and makes it a part of our memory. We barely remember the dialogues from a movie scene; but can often find ourselves humming our favorite songs and scores from a particular movie. It's the music that keeps a movie alive even after the 3 hour experience ends.

Famously known as the Mozart of Madras, Dr A R Rahman, has been an ace music composer with two Oscar awards amongst many more accolades and awards that he has won, over the course of his gratifying career.

A philanthropic musician that he is, ARR always wished that someday the students enrolled in his foundation will eventually be the change makers and future leaders in their respective fields of study. 

Half a decade after the inauguration of the Sunshine Orchestra, all of us at the foundation feel proud to share that a select group of students from our many batches of students; have started participating in recording background music for movies, as well as music for movie songs, for the films and songs of none other than Dr A R Rahman himself.

The Sunshine Orchestra Strings ensemble and the Brass ensemble have contributed to recording background music for various movies, & various online multimedia platforms. Some of their notable recordings are Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, Harmony - Amazon web series, Robo 2, Viceroy's house, Mohen Jo Daro, Mom, Sachin - a billion dreams, Hockey Anthem, Jaalam, Dil Bechaara amongst others.

"Making Music in the land of festivals"

Just when I thought that 2019 couldn't get any more awesome, our founder Dr A R Rahman graced the finale of The Hornbill Festival; upon the invitation of Mr Nephiu Rio, honorable Chief Minister of Nagaland. 

As a part of the closing ceremony, a MoU was signed to launch the newest wing of our flagship program, The Sunshine Orchestra Nagaland initiative, in collaboration with TaFma and the KM Music conservatory as the knowledge partner for this project.

He also visited an orphanage in Kohima, and the first batch of 20 students for this program were enrolled in the Sunshine family. Nagaland the north eastern state of India, is famous for the celebration of festivals throughout the year and these consists of cultural, musical and traditional festivals; they have a special wing to promote arts and music in the state TaFMa, and we feel proud to introduce them as our partner in this project to execute the smooth functioning of the orchestra.

Our foundation warmly welcomes these new students to the ever growing Sunshine orchestra family. We wish all the very best to these future change-makers as they embark on this musical journey.

The main aim of the inaugural program growing from the strength and vision of the Sunshine Orchestra, under the aegis of the A R Rahman Foundation, is to shape future musical leaders from Nagaland.

Here's presenting to you, 'The Sunshine Orchestra'

The A R Rahman foundation's flagship program that was launched in the year 2008.

Brain-child of our founder and Oscar winning composer Dr A R Rahman,

who one day while staring at the downtrodden areas across the roads from the window of his studios; suddenly felt the need to implement a change that can transform and uplift the society that we live in and hence came into effect our program 'the sunshine orchestra'. With the Sunshine Orchestra; the foundation aims to dissolve all boundaries through music.

This journey of a decade has been the most memorable for one and for all of us at the foundation alike. The teachers, students, faculty, volunteers and supporters; all work as a team and with one goal; 'a world filled with music; & aiming for a tomorrow filled with peace'. This is a story of hope and it speaks volumes about what my dear friends, is the true power of music!

What began as a team of 5 students; has now successfully transformed and shaped the lives of over 150 students and all this through music. These students who once walked in through the doors of KM Music Conservatory, are today stepping out in the glorious world as roaring lions and lionesses, in music. They are embodied with passion and with the zeal to achieve in life. 

These kids are the change makers our society needs today and as first generation musicians they are making their families and the foundation proud every time they perform on stage... this year they performed for various events including - Jalam, TED Talks , Harman’s 10th anniversary concert, Voice of legends - A global tour with the legendary S.P. Balasubramaniam, and most prominent of them all; they’ve shared the stage with none other than Dr. A R Rahman, for one of his live shows “ARR live”
